Innova embraces driver safety

Background

Innova Care Concepts provide, source, store and distribute medical and care equipment to the NHS, private hospitals, and medical supply chains as well as adapting residential properties with hoisting & bathing equipment.

They also provide third-party logistics to companies all over the UK from their head office in West Yorkshire and their distribution hubs based in Castleford and Rotherham.

Challenges Faced

The company has grown substantially over the last three years and subsequently, have taken on more staff. They have a number of employees who either drive lease cars, company vehicles or their own vehicles for work purposes. Being responsible employers, they wanted to ensure they had the right policies in place to manage any potential risk but didn’t have the expertise in-house to develop what was needed.

Requirement

Innova always put the well-being and safety of their staff and customers first. They wanted to ensure that their drivers were as safe as possible on the roads as well as ensuring the company was fully compliant under health and safety law.

How We Helped

Adrian spent time with the Innova team to understand the business and what was required to ensure the business was fully protected. He used this information to develop a risk assessment of their driving activities, a driver safety policy, a suite of authorisation to drive application forms and guidance on rolling out their driver risk management programme.

Daniel Carver is the company’s Procurement Manager, who worked closely with Adrian to ensure that all the requirements bespoke to Innova were covered fully.

We knew that we needed to get the right documentation in place to protect our staff who drive for work purposes as well as ourselves as an employer but needed the right expertise to do that. Adrian was great to work with. He took all the information from me through a series of questionnaires and used it to develop the relevant documentation.

We’re now looking to take it a step further and are discussing delivering training to our core drivers before rolling it out to our sales reps, as well as installing tracking devices.
